What resources are available for persons with disabilities?
The President’s Advisory Committee on Disability Issues ensures broad institutional input on matters relating to persons with disabilities at MSU. The Committee is responsible for advising the President on University policies, programs and procedures affecting persons with disabilities in the University community.
Students with a disability should contact the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities, 120 Bessey Hall, 517/353-9642 or TTY 517/355-1293.
Qualified employees with disabilities, may seek reasonable accommodations in consultation with supervisors or unit administrators. More information may be found in the University’s Disability/Reasonable Accommodations Policy.
Transportation: Public transportation for the MSU campus is provided by the Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA). All CATA buses are fully accessible, allowing persons with disabilities to use the service. The fixed-route system is supplemented by Spec-Tran, a small vehicle, advance appointment, demand-response and curb-to-curb paratransit service. Spec-Tran is available for persons who cannot use fixed route services because of a disability. Additional information may be obtained from CATA at 394-1000 or TTY 394-CATA. Students and employees whose disability precludes use of the fixed route system may receive assistance in registering for Spec-Tran by contacting CATA directly or via the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities, 120 Bessey Hall, 353-9642.
Parking: Information on accessible parking and parking permits may be obtained from the Vehicle Office, Department of Police and Public Safety, Red Cedar Road, 517/355-8440.
Housing: MSU offers a variety of on-campus living facilities, each with its own unique design and general atmosphere. Several of these facilities offer units that meet needs of persons with disabilities. These units, though innovative in design, are integrated into the general housing complexes so as not to isolate persons with disabilities from the mainstream of campus life. Information on accessible residence hall or apartment facilities on campus may be obtained from the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities, 120 Bessey Hall, 353-9642.
Accommodations for public events: Contact the sponsoring unit/organization for additional information.
