About Us
The Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives serves as an institutional focal point for promoting inclusion and diversity at Michigan State University. The office is strategically designed to focus on four specific areas to support the mission of the office and the mission of the University. Professional staff is composed of a diverse and dedicated group of talented Spartans. Staff members are a team of experts with many years of experience in fields related to equal employment opportunity, diversity, civil rights and nondiscrimination. We are committed to the work that we do and the critical support that we provide to the University and its local, national and global communities.
Institutional Equity ensures compliance with the University’s Anti-Discrimination Policy and its Affirmative Action Plan. It is a resource for academic and support unit searches, including recruitment initiatives to attract people from diverse backgrounds to apply for positions.
Education and Development, like the broader University, values the individual, welcomes diverse viewpoints and nurtures their exchange. Through our workshops, faculty, students and staff are provided the opportunity to examine their individual beliefs, learn how to accept differences and to learn different approaches they can use to create and cultivate a supportive and respectful campus environment.
Community Outreach promotes inclusive excellence at MSU by coordinating programs and events that highlight campus-wide best practices in the area of diversity, as demonstrated by MSU’s faculty, students and staff. These highlighted initiatives include practices in teaching, research, publishing and programs offered at MSU. Through community building activities, Community Outreach serves as a catalyst to promote and sustain a campus environment that is supportive of everyone. Supportive relationships are formed through outreach and engagement activities among individuals, units and organizations within and outside the campus community.
Inclusive Excellence, Research and Assessment utilizes the “Creating Inclusive Excellence Grant” process to encourage the design and implementation of creative ideas to assess the efficacy and impact of these efforts and to create a synergy within and across organizational systems to support a diverse educational and work environment.
