Complaint Investigations

The University must comply with state and federal anti-discrimination and equal opportunity laws. The University charges the Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives (“I3”) with the role of ensuring compliance. To fulfill this legal obligation, the Office for Inclusion conducts and assists with conducting investigations of claims under the Anti-Discrimination Policy. A University community member may meet informally with an Office for Inclusion Institutional Equity staff member or invoke a formal process that generally triggers an investigation, as explained the Complaint Procedures.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

University policy prohibits discrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities with respect to the benefits of and access to programs, services, and activities. Any person who believes he or she has been improperly denied the benefit of, or access to a program, service or activity may submit a grievance. Members of the public are governed by the ADA Grievance Procedure.

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and Title II of the ADA requires MSU to appoint an individual responsible for the campus coordination of the administrative requirements of ADA compliance and to respond to complaints filed by the public. If you are a member of the public and believe you were denied access to a service or activity connected to the University based on your disability, a grievance can be filed with the ADA Coordinator located in the Office for Inclusion. To file a grievance, complete the ADA grievance form and send it to Institutional Equity in 101 Olds Hall Building, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824.
